Abstract
Recently, the frequent occurrence of earthquake in Korea has increased awareness about earthquake. Seismic design standards in Korea were established in 1988, but today there are many low-to-middle-rise buildings which are not covered by these standards and to which seismic design need be applied. A recently developed hybrid damping system, called a SAFE Damper, uses a friction damper and a metallic damper which are activated in stages. SAFE Damper can be constructed where the walls are loacted. In comparison with other method of construction, SAFE damper has many avantages. The advantages of this system include a high-efficiency, the ability to minimize damage to the building’s appearance and lighting, and a low life-cycle cost. In this study, describes experiments evaluating the structural performance of joint connection(SAFE damper and reinforced concrete(RC) beam). From the results, it was found that the joint performance of RC-beam by the installation of the SAFE damper joint detail using head-bar and reinforcement(U-bar, Hoop-bar)
