Abstract
TCP/IP is now an integral part of AUTOSAR, the universal standard architecture of automotive software for ECUs. In this article, we focus on the TCP specification in AUTOSAR and its performance issues in a typical in-vehicle network environment. We find that the environment with typically slow ECUs justifies most of AUTOSAR's choices to shed some TCP features such as performance enhancement options. Furthermore, we observe that the environment can even make UDP a viable transport protocol that can outperform TCP under certain conditions.
