- Abstract
- The study examined the effect of 12 weeks of pilates exercise elastic band on maximum muscle strength and balance of general female university students. The participants were 18 female students with no experience pilates (non physical education major). 10 participants (age (21.3±1.8), height (162.8 ±4.9), weight (51.5±6.9)) who agreed to cooperate in an exercise program have participated (pilates group). The control group was composed of 8 participants (age (20.8±1.7), height (159.9±3.3), weight (51.5±6.9)) who did not participate in the program(control group).
The results of the pilates exercise elastic band was like the following. First, the pilates exercise elastic band has not shown much different in weight (kg), Body Mass Index (kg/m²), Body Fat Percentage (%), and the amount of muscle (kg) compared with control group. Second, a noticeable difference occurred in maximum muscle strength per unit weight of knee joint (Peak Torque/ Body weight), specifically in categories of 60°/sec Flexion Right/Left and 180°/sec Flexion Right/Left, 240°/sec Flexion and Extension Right/Left, when pilates with resistance band was performed. Third, a noticeable difference occurred in balance Level 1(Anterior/Posterior Index), Level 12(Overall, Anterior/Posterior Index) when pilates with resistance band was performed. In conclusion, pilates exercise elastic band 3 times a week for 12 weeks has shown positive effect on body composition, maximum muscle strength, and balance
