- Abstract
- 리의 군 이론은 19세기 수학 발전에서 가장 중요한 것 중의 하나이다. 클라인과 리의 만남은 이후 그들 연구의 근간이 되었으며 그들의 연구는 19세기 전반에 발전된 다양한 기하학 이론을 정리하였을 뿐만 아니라 이에 새로운 관점을 더해서 훨씬 새롭고 구조적인 이론으로 성장하였다. 리의 연구는 미적분과 군론의 결합이라는 유용한 결실을 이루었으며 그의 리군론은 많은 뛰어난 수학자들에 의하여 해석되고 변형되어 매우 추상적이면서도 구체적인 이론으로 거듭났다. 본 논문에서는 리의 학문적 여정 초기의 연구 대상을 살펴봄으로써 사고의 틀을 깨는 전환의 밑바탕에 어떠한 역사가 있는가를 알아본다.
