- Abstract
- The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of the intensity of aerobic exercise and the duration of fasting on AMPK, PGC-1α, PPARα, GLUT4. We classified rats in 5 groups(Control, High-Ex, Mid-Ex, 12F, 6F). For the aerobic exercise, medium- and high-intensity running on the tread mill was performed for 30 minutes in each session and the duration of fasting was set at 6 hours and 12 hours for each set. The expression of AMPK, PGC-1, PPARα, GLUT4 protein in soleus muscles analyzed by western blotting. As a result, the expression of p-AMPK protein in High-Ex, Mid-Ex and 12F group showed higher compared to the 6F, Control group(p<.05). For the expression of PGC-1αprotein, compared to the 12F, Mid-Ex, 6F and Control group, the group on which the High-Ex was applied turned out to show higher expression of PGC-1αprotein(p<.05), and the Mid-Ex and 12F groups each showed higher expression of PGC-1αprotein compared to the 6F, Control group(p<.05). The expression of PPAR αprotein in the High-Ex group showed higher compared to the 12F, Mid-Ex, 6F, Control group(p<.05), and the 12F group showed higher expression of PPARαprotein compared to the Mid-Ex, 6F, Control group(p<.05). The expression of the GLUT4 protein showed higher in the High-Ex group compared to the 12F, Control groups(p<.05), Mid-Ex and the 6F groups showed lower expression of GLUT4 protein compared to the High-Ex group(p<.05). In conclusion, exercise seems to be effective for the improvement of biosynthesis of mitochondria and metabolic disorders, and especially, high-intensity aerobic exercise seems to have an affirmative influence on the metabolism of fat together with the biosynthesis of mitochondria. Moreover, it seems that fasting for the duration of 12 hours has a similar affirmative influence on the biosynthesis of mitochondria as exercise with intermediate intensity.
