Abstract
The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects or things embedded with electronics, software, sensors and connectivity to enable it to achieve greater value and service by exchanging data with the manufacturer, operator and/or other connected devices(wiki). It would bring the society many benefits and innovation, and help develop economy. Despite its benefits, IoT data is collected pervasively, making the notice and consent model and other information privacy norms almost impossible to work. While the society is able to enjoy the benefits of internet of things, the personal data should be protected. This paper deals with the issues resulting from the utilization of the internet of things, and suggests how to apply the mechanisms for the protection of personal data to internet of things. This paper suggests that privacy by design and security by design would be the controlling principle in internet of things, that some FIPPs be applied flexibly or strictly, and that the self-regulation would be a better solution for the protection of personal data.
