Abstract
This study has critical mind about language material in the grammar textbooks that lean to written language. Although several research had emphasized that language material should be treated variously at level of discourse, there is little argument about extension of spoken language. However, considering that real language life consists mostly of spoken language, extension of spoken language in textbook leads to guarantee of authenticity in education. In order to improvement the grammar textbook in terms of material, this study reviewed the grammar textbook now in use quantitatively. Suggestions based on this review are that (1) language materials at level of discourse and of authentic spoken language are expanded, and to do that (2) gathering a spoken corpus for education has to be preceded. Lastly, (3) audio materials are used for education in order to exceed limit of paper textbook.
