Abstract
Although early research on corporate social responsibility (CSR) focused on stakeholders' view and external customer evaluation, recently, CSR scholars have started to pay attention to the importance of employee cognition and behavior and have suggested that CSR is likely to improve organizational effectiveness. However, few studies have tested the relationship between employees' perception on CSR and their organizational commitment. This study contributes by empirically testing the influence of CSR on specific organizational effectiveness such as organizational commitment and also examines the moderating effects of perceived organizational support. Using 371 survey data from information and technology workers, we found that perceived CSR by employees was positively related to organizational commitment. The study also identified that perceived organizational support played positive moderating role in the relationship between them. The findings of this study shed some light on the process through which the implementation of appropriate CSR practices may influence employee attitudes and behaviors toward organization. ©2015 International Information Institute.
