- Abstract
- This article analyses the legal implications of the tragedy off the coast of South Korea that killed more than 300 passengers on the ferry The Sewol that capsized and sank at sea on 16 April 2014. Most of the victims were teenagers on a school trip. This article examines the cause of the accident and how future maritime safety could be improved. Various issues concerning maritime law, contract law, tort law and insurance law are explored in the context of limitation of liability and assessment of damages.
