초록

Since the first comprehensive review of large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) rheology in 2011, LAOS tests have become a canonical method for probing the nonlinear rheological properties of polymeric materials. By independently controlling the amplitude and frequency of deformation, LAOS allows for systematic and reproducible nonlinear measurements and provides a powerful tool for exploring hidden nonlinear materials physics. This versatility has led to its rapid adoption in both academic and industrial settings. Over the past decades, LAOS data analysis techniques have advanced continuously, reflecting the growing demand for quantitative and predictive insights. Recently, two emerging approaches, medium amplitude oscillatory shear (MAOS) and sequence of physical processes (SPP), have opened new opportunities for establishing structure-property relationships across a broad range of materials, from simple polymeric materials to rheologically complex fluids. Despite the increasing demand, the theoretical background, mathematical formulations, and practical implementations of these techniques remain scattered across numerous independent publications, making it difficult for researchers to obtain a coherent overview. In this review, we consolidate recent developments in MAOS and SPP analyses, summarizing their historical context, theoretical foundations, and practical applications. In addition, we review several other advances in nonlinear oscillatory shear: (1) LAOS measurements with stress input, (2) constrained recovery rheology, (3) data-driven translation of LAOS responses into material and processing properties, and (4) open-source software packages for reproducible implementation of LAOS analysis methods. © 2026 Elsevier Ltd
