As future demands in brain-inspired computer systems arise, researchers are exploring new materials for artificial synaptic devices. Among these, MOF-based devices have atmospheric stability and functional potential for neuromorphic applications. The present work focuses on the synthesis of Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-8 (ZIF8), a porous and thermally stable MOF, and evaluates how it behaves when it switches resistively (RS) for use in neuromorphic applications. Electrical measurements show that the Ag/ZIF-8/FTO behaves like a bipolar analogue switch, mimicking important synaptic functions like potentiation, depression, paired-pulse facilitation (PPF) and excitatory post-synaptic current (EPSC). The double-valued charge-flux response in the fabricated RS configuration indicates the presence of non-ideal memristor characteristics. Current transport property of the device is mainly influenced by Ohmic conduction at low bias and Child's square law behaviour at higher voltages. Based on the fitting analysis, a filament-based resistive switching mechanism is inferred. Overall, the study highlights ZIF-8 as a potential metal-organic framework (MOF) material for future applications in neuromorphic computing.
