- Abstract
- Is there korean language education in this country? This is my question in this paper. Of course, korean language education is language education, but language education is not korean language education. So korean language department is not only instrumental not also contental.
I think that purpose of korean language education is not language usage function enhancement but korean language ability enhancement. Problem is what korean language abililty is. Korean language abililty is to know and use korean language. To know korean language we must study grammar, and to use korean language we must study function and literature. Generally speaking, grammar scope is involved in korean knowing, and function and literature scope are involved in korean using. So we must teach and learn not only grammar as contental, but also function as instrumental.
And it is evident that there are evaluation in all education process. In reality College Scholastic Ability Test have effected way of all education. It is prohibited that there are knowledge question in CSAT. But I think there must be contental question in CSAT, because knowledge is base of usage, especially in 21 century knowledge-based society. From now on there must be harmony between knowing and using.
