- Abstract
- Orbital machining is normally used for a crankshaft pin because it is difficult to process with the usual machining method. Deformation of the crankshaft in orbital grinding changes continually because of the shape of the crankshaft and the continuously changing relationship between the grinding force and the steady rest. This causes machining error. In this study, the relationship between grinding force and stiffness in orbital grinding was established and the deformation due to the grinding force was predicted. By compensating for the predicted deformation, machining error is reduced to 24% of the average deformation before compensation.
