- Abstract
- The objective of this article is to examine whether translating sexual expressions suggests different strategies for either male or female translators, whether there is any gender-associated struggle for rewriting the sexuality into different language. Actually, sex is probably one of the most intimate indications of identity, as it conjures up images of sexual activity, eroticism, pleasure, taboo, fantasies, desire, etc. Likewise, language is the most intimate way of expressing sex. Our work concerns Le Deuxième sexe of Simone de Beauvoir and its two Korean translations by Yongho Lee and Yeonghee Lee, male and female translator respectively. After all, we realized that the approaches to sexuality by two translators of gender difference may show the three dimensions of interesting divergence : women’s body, sexual activity, homosexuality.
